Pages to Tea (7)

P A G E S  to  T E A

I'm not sure if you know but I am a big tea fanatic. I have so many bags and tins of tea I probably can create a great wall of tea. I love how different teas have different properties. Some teas can be energizing and some teas can be calming. My favorite time to enjoy a cuppa is when I am reading a book. Hence why I am showcasing some fantastic book and tea pairings.

[Luna Lovegood from the Harry Potter series + Capital Teas Herbal Chai]

Luna Lovegood is one of my favorite characters in the Harry Potter series. Not only is she a Ravenclaw but she is unique and walks to the beat of her own drum. That being said, Herbal Chai it a good match for Luna. This is tea is a spicy blend that is a universal favorite among tea drinkers worldwide. Herbal Chai contains cinnamon, lemongrass, coconut chips, candied pineapple pieces, ginger, cardamom, cloves, and pink peppercorns. The peppercorns remind me of the mistletoe berries. It reminds me how Luna always talks about Nargles in the mistletoe. Luna is a bit sweet, a bit eccentric and so is this wonderful blend. It's a bit fruity and sweet yet a bit spicy. Luna can be feisty when it comes to people endangering her dear loved ones.

Feng Lu in Forest of a Thousand Lanterns is based on the Silk Road and how fitting is Gold Silk for Feng Lu. With it's elegant and twisted black and gold leaves, this tea makes full-bodied, smooth, and rich. Overall there is a malty sweetness in taste with notes of chocolate and a hint of smokiness that lingers on the tongue. And if you're one for multiple infusions, you're in luck since you can get several cups from Gold Silk Black Tea. This tea is suitable for royalty.

Lei's fiery and confident personality is engulfing yet she is poised enough to be chosen to be a concubine for the Demon King. Adagio's Samurai Mate Tea blend includes yerba mate which is elegantly balanced with the spirit of chai spices and the essence of tropical fruit undertones. This mosaic of flavors delivers a graceful yet powerful kick fit for a warrior. The tea provides enough energy to power through even the toughest of days. This is just what Lei needs to gain confidence to plot her revenge against the Demon King and she gains enough courage to say enough is enough and no means no.

STALKING JACK THE RIPPER TEA PAIRINGS

[Audrey Rose Wadsworth + Earl Grey Darjeeling Organic Black Tea by American Tea Room]

Audrey Rose is not your conventional lady. This particular Earl Grey is the champagne of Earl Greys made entirely of fine Darjeeling black tea and scented with fine bergamot citrus. It's a little woodier than a traditional Earl Grey, with a hint of soil which is perfect for Audrey Rose since she is not afraid to get her hands dirty. The Darjeeling Earl Grey twist is a homage to her English and Indian roots and her sophistication.

[Thomas Cresswell + Vanilla Bean Black Tea by Rishi]

Rishi's Vanilla Bean Black Tea is perfect for the charming, sweet and smooth talking, Thomas Cresswell. This black tea is decadent and creamy. It's a blend of a malty, smooth-bodied tea from Yunnan with premium vanilla extract and high quality chopped vanilla bean to create a silky, layered taste experience. Have a cuppa with this lad!

[Jack the Ripper + Da Yu Lin Oolong by Red Blossom Tea

Da Yu Lin has a reputation as Taiwan’s most coveted tea. Although he is not coveted, Jack believes he is above all and it's a no brainer that Da Yu Lin Oolong is the perfect match for him. This particular oolong is rare and complex. The taste and the aroma morphs throughout the life span of each brew. This smooth and full bodied tea begins with a buttery texture and finishes with a hint of tangerine, sugar cane and cream. Jack is a slippery character and is able to fall through the cracks as people try to figure out the murderer.

Against her stern father's wishes and society's expectations, Audrey often slips away to her uncle's laboratory to study the gruesome practice of forensic medicine. When her work on a string of savagely killed corpses drags Audrey into the investigation of a serial murderer, her search for answers brings her close to her own sheltered world.

Since it's July and I have been talking about Harry Potter constantly, I figured why not have a Pages to Tea post featuring some Harry Potter character tea pairings.

Remus Lupin, aka Moony, is one of my favorite Harry Potter characters. Tantalizing Tea's Moonlight Sonata is a delicious combination of dark chocolate pieces, vanilla, mint and rooibos, with a trace amount of dairy & sugar. This is perfect for the Defense Against the Dark Arts (DADA) teacher who actually knows what he is doing, unlike some of the other DADA teachers. The tea tastes like a peppermint patty without the caffeine and is perfect for the night.

Dumbledore is very fond of the Muggle treat called the Sherbet Lemon. This black tea is an organic blend of Chinese black tea with a burst of lemon sunshine. It's a modern take of the classic black tea with a twist of lemon. The sweet citrus notes of grapefruit lemongrass, orange and bergamot blends well together and the hearty Chinese Yunnan leaves rounds out the tea. This tea is good hot or iced.

Qu Hao Silk is silky smooth and a rounded rare black tea. Qu Hao Silk has a low tannin count and a natural note of chocolate, earning it the nickname “Black Silk”. The aroma is full-bodied but has a delicate sweetness. The beautiful dark red liquor is just as tasty as it sounds. Just like Qu Hao Silk, the Potions Master is one of a kind and has a silky voice. Snape also has a nickname that is very important to him.

Rishi's Yunnann Lily Black comes from the Jin Xuan (Golden Lily) tea tree. According to Rishi, the tea is made using a slightly higher drying temperature to draw out those aromas to their fullest potential. This definitely sounds like Sydney. Although under stress, Sydney's potential peaks when she is determined. Yunnan Lily Black has tasting notes of exotic black tea with a lush aromatic bouquet of wild rose and lychee. And you bet that Sydney is growing more fond of Rose Hathaway and Jill Mastrano Dragomir.

The Jabberwocky is a complex tea. According to Whispering Pines Teas' website, the Jabberwocky tea is strong and smooth with a full mouth of wildflower nectar and honey drizzled on a fresh french baguette with a light hint of salt. The middle of the sip hints at creamy chocolate and plum dipped in luscious silky caramel. The finish hints at camphor and eucalyptus, leaving your mouth feeling fresh and wanting more! Jabberwock is often mistaken as Jabberwocky and is mentioned in the poem "Jabberwocky" in Through the Looking Glass. The Jabberwocky tea reminds me of Alice at the Mad Tea Party in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Because of all the flavors of honey, bread, chocolate, plum and caramel, this tea would great as a dessert tea.

Percy Jackson joins Clarisse La Rue, Tyson and Annabeth Chase on a quest to find the Golden Fleece to revive Thalia's Pine Tree. According to Verdant Tea's website, The Golden Fleece gets its name to honor the soft, rich texture experience of tasting this incredible small harvest tea. Only the large tender buds are harvested. The down from the buds infuses into every cup, yielding a uniquely thick mouthfeel.

If you've read Fangirl, you know Levi is whipping up Mocha Pumpkin Breve lattes at Starbucks quite often. Teavana's Pumpkin Spice Brulee Oolong is the closest you can get to the Levi original. It contains notes of richly sweet and creamy white and dark chocolate with sweet pumpkin and caramel flavors. It has hints of toasty cinnamon-ginger spice. If you want more kick to your tea, mix the Pumpkin Spice Brûlée Oolong with Teavana's Maharaja Chai Oolong tea. Also, check out this recipe if you want to try Levi's signature drink. You may add espresso if you would like the caffeine.

[Percy Jackson series by Rick RiordanWhite Ambrosia by Tea Forte and Neem Nectar by Teatulia

Everyone knows ambrosia and nectar are the food and drink of the Greek Gods. In the Percy Jackson series, Demigods rely on ambrosia and nectar for their healing properties. However, they can only consume ambrosia and drink nectar in small quantities. Tea Forte's White Ambrosia is a white tea and is blended with fragrant Madagascar vanilla and the tropical tease of island coconut. It is delicate, refreshing and divine. Teatulia's Neem Nectar is a blend of black tea & Neem Leaf. The nectar has a delightful brightness including hints of cherry stones, orange rinds and caramel.

Lola is eccentric and loves to wear clothing that expresses herself. If her outfit is outrageous, sparkly and fun, the better it is. I would say Lola would definitely approve some metallic accents and some glitter in her life. Plain is boring. Why not add some glitter and gold? DAVIDsTEA's Glitter and Gold is a black tea filled with golden star sprinkles and has a hint of warming cinnamon.

[The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins + Cinnaberry by DAVIDsTEA]

When I heard about the Cinnaberry tea by DAVIDsTEA, it reminded me of Cinna and the Nightlock berries from The Hunger Games. According to DAVIDsTEA, it’s a classic combo for a reason – the blend of sweet, juicy berries and warm cinnamon is cozy, comforting and just plain nostalgic. The rooibos tea also contains currants, hibiscus, strawberry leaves and blackberry and blueberry flavorings.

[Fairest  by Marissa Meyer + Queen of Tarts by DAVIDsTEA]

Queen Levana is manipulative and tart! With the colors of fire and pure vanity, Queen of Tarts is the perfect tea for this evil queen. According the DAVIDsTEA, Queen of Tarts is loaded with tangy hibiscus flowers, which bring their signature deep red colour and lip-puckering taste. Golden marigold blossoms add a pretty pop of yellow and there is a super-energizing burst of Ecuadorian guayusa. Queen of Tarts is invigorating warm or iced.

[Under a Painted Sky by Stacey Lee + Yunnan Gold by Adagio]

Samantha is traveling on the Oregon Trail to seek her father's friend in California. She pretends she is a teenage male seeking gold during the California Gold Rush. Yunnan Gold by Adagio is the perfect companion to Under a Painted Sky. According to Adagio, Yunnan Gold is a black tea and is easily identified by its abundance of soft golden tips, and savory cocoa and black pepper flavors. Sammy is sweet yet independent and bold. Cay and West's last name is Pepper which is perfect! The tea is hailed from China which resembles Sammy well since she is of Chinese heritage. The earthiness of the tea becomes present when the tea cools down which is perfect for the grittiness of this Western novel.

Pages to Tea (2)

P A G E S  to  T E A

I'm not sure if you know but I am a big tea fanatic. I have so many bags and tins of tea I probably can create a great wall of tea. I love how different teas have different properties. Some teas can be energizing and some teas can be calming. My favorite time to enjoy a cuppa is when I am reading a book. Hence why I am showcasing some fantastic book and tea pairings.

This edition of Pages to Tea is more character based but all three pairings involve the Infernal Devices trilogy by Cassandra Clare.

It wouldn't be Will without a cuppa of this robust black tea. Full in flavor, this tea is fitting for Will. At first the English Breakfast tea may seem bold, but the flavor is not overpowering. Soften the toasty boldness with a bit of milk. The honey notes tone down the briskness.

Jem is the Yin to Will's Yang. Adagio's Silver Needle is one of the most revered of Chinese teas. It's a delicate white tea with honeysuckle floral fragrance. It's warmed sugar sweetness and a subtle hint of white grape is refreshing on the palate. This exquisite light tea can be drunk straight and can be enjoyed in multiple infusions. Also, I find it interesting how Yin Zhen is similar to Yin Fen.

This is a contemporary twist to the original Earl Grey tea. This classic blend has notes of enchanting lavender that perfectly complements the floral aromas and citrus notes of Earl Grey. The lavender is calming while the Earl Grey is an exhilarating black tea with a citrus sweetness. It's the perfect variation of Earl Grey for Tessa Gray.

[Anna and the French Kiss + Harney & Sons' Paris Black Tea]

Anna is sent to a boarding school in Paris! I think I can say that the Harney & Sons' Paris Black Tea is a perfect match for Anna and the French Kiss. Paris is a fruity black tea with vanilla and caramel flavors, and a hint of lemony Bergamot. This is one of Harney & Sons most popular teas.

[The Bane Chronicles + The Republic of Tea's Lapsang Souchong Black Tea]

Who doesn't love Magnus Bane? He is a reoccurring character in The Mortal Instruments series, The Infernal Devices series and in The Bane Chronicles. His favorite tea is Lapsang Souchong so it's a no brainer that I would pair him up with this black tea. This particular tea of mystery from The Republic of Tea is entrancing and smoky in character. It is achieved through an elaborate process. According to The Republic of Tea's website, the hand-picked leaves are smoked over pinewood embers, for a distinct and mysterious cup. Sounds like Magnus all right.

[Tuck Everlasting + Teavana's Youthberry White Tea]

Would you ever want to live forever like the Tuck family? This sweetly timeless elixir doesn't extend your life or make you young but it's packed full of fruity flavor. This white tea is a refreshing sweet pineapple and fruity acai berry infusion with subtle floral finish. Teavana's Youthberry White Tea is a great tea to blend with another white tea or a green tea. What a perfect cuppa for Tuck Everlasting.
