Top Ten Book to Screen Adaptations I'm Looking Forward To

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week's Top Ten Tuesday asks bloggers to choose their top ten book to movie adaptations they are looking forward to or ten book to movie adaptations they still need to watch. I changed the title to screen adaptations since I included a couple of TV shows. Also, because I can, I added a couple more titles for good luck. The following book to screen adapatations are in no particular order.

1. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2
Based on Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins
Starring: Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth and etc.
Directed by: Francis Lawrence
Expected Release Date: November 20, 2015

The book series is phenomenal and the movies in the series are just as great. This is the final film in the series and of course it is a film I cannot wait to see.

2. How to Train a Dragon 3
Based on How to Train Your Dragon series by Cressida Cowell
Starring: Kristen Wiig, Cate Blanchett, Gerard Butler and etc.
Directed by: Dean DeBlois
Expected Release Date: June 29, 2018

I enjoyed the first two movies and I cannot wait for the third. I haven't read the book series but I want to read it one day to see the difference between the books and films.

3. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
Based on Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them by J.K. Rowling
Starring: Eddie Redmayne, Colin Farrell, Ron Perlman and etc.
Directed by: David Yates
Expected Release Date: November 18, 2016

No words can describe how happy I am about a spinoff Harry Potter film series. And not only will Potter fans be able to see Newt Scamander in action once but this is the first film in the trilogy! Yes, I said trilogy! Eddie Redmayne is the perfect Newt as well! I am beyond excited that I can experience more of the wizarding magic!

4. All Souls Trilogy
Based on the All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness
In development with BBC
Expected premiere date: TBD

5. Eleanor & Park
Based on Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell
In pre-production with DreamWorks
Rainbow Rowell is writing the screenplay and more information can be found here.

Rainbow Rowell is the queen of contemporary and she wrote an amazing book about two teens in the mid 1980s. I enjoyed the book and with Rainbow working on the screenplay, this film adaptation will be fantastic just like her books.

6. Alice Through the Looking Glass
Based on Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll
Starring: Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Mia Wasikowska
Directed by: James Bobin
Produced by: Tim Burton
Expected Release Date: May 27, 2016

Although, Tim Burton is not directing the Alice sequel, I am excited he's the producer. I am a big fan of everything Tim Burton and I am happy the same cast for the first film reprised their roles. I love Alice and pretty much any movie with Johnny Depp in it. Who doesn't like Alice retellings?

7. The BFG
Based on The BFG by Roald Dahl
Starring:  Rebecca Hall, Mark Rylance, Jemaine Clement
Directed by: Steven Spielberg
Expected Release Date: July 1, 2016

I grew up on Roald Dahl's fantastic stories when I was a child. Seeing The BFG on the big screen will definitely be nostalgic. And with Steven Spielberg directing the film, it will be a great family film.

8. The Young Elites
Based on The Young Elites by Marie Lu
Fox and Temple Hill Entertainment purchased rights earlier this year.

9. Allegiant
Based on Allegiant by Veronica Roth
Starring: Shailene Woodley, ZoĆ« Kravitz, Miles Teller
Directed by: Robert Schwentke
Expected Release Date: March 18, 2016

The third installment in this series is definitely going to be interesting since Allegiant, the novel, will be split into two films. Because of the changes made to the Insurgent film, I am a bit hesitant how Allegiant is going to pan out. Hopefully, I won't be disappointed.

10. Simon Vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda
Based on Simon Vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli
Fox 2000 picked up the film rights last month

I am super excited Simon Vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda got the film rights picked up. I cannot wait to see this book being translated onto the big screen.

11. Shadowhunters
Based on The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare
Starring: Katherine McNamara, Dominic Sherwood, Alberto Rosende
Directed by:
Expected premiere date: January 12, 2016

The film The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones was meh to me when I saw it in theaters and I am hoping the TV show can redeem itself. However, the Shadowhunters trailer is pretty cheesy and I have seen some fan made trailers that are much better than the official one. Hopefully, the actors do a good acting job because if I am not satisfied after the first few episodes, I probably will avoid watching any screen adaptations of The Mortal Instruments series.

12. Victor Frankenstein
Based on Frankenstein by Mary Shelley
Starring:  Daniel Radcliffe, James McAvoy, Jessica Brown Findlay and etc.
Directed by: Paul McGuigan
Expected release date: November 25, 2015

Frankenstein retellings are captivating and I am excited to see how James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe will portray Victor Frankenstein and Igor.

  1. Simon Vs Homo Sapiens Agenda has been picked up? Oh wow. I love that book.

    My TTT

    1. I hope so! Rainbow is working on the screenplay which is great because it makes the adaptation much more promising.

  3. I've heard that How to Train Your Dragon books and movies are nothing alike. I do really love the movies.

    1. Yeah, that is what I heard too but I would love to compare and contrast the books and the movies. I love the movies too!

  4. I've been really into the Hunger Games adaptations. I can't believe the series is almost done! :-)

    1. Crazy how the last film is out soon. With all these series with the last film being two parters, they take forever for all of them to be released.

  6. I am really looking forward to the Frankenstein movie. It looks so good. I just saw the trailer over the weekend.
